Graduation, Gratitude and Growth

Some important things are coming up in my life. In 16 days, I’m graduating from my local community college. I will also be graduating from the place I attend for eating disorder recovery treatment. It’s kind of overwhelming how two separate occasions of graduation and moving forward can be so overwhelming but make me full of so much gratitude at the same time.

Through practicing self-love on my daily efforts I can say that my recovery doesn’t stop because I am moving on to University. I think my efforts of me practicing self-love every day has prepared me for this new stage in my life.

I think my recovery from the cycle of a vicious eating disorder and my willingness to be open to the idea that I can recover, that I’m worth recovery and following awesome recovery blogs, has really help me. Then, add practicing self-love more and more each day, that is something that baffles me. I have beaten cancer now twice. I am walking across that stage. I am graduating from treatment (treatment that I didn’t want to go to originally) and most of all, I can say that I love me, flaws and all.

The point of this though is someone in my recovery group told me that they are so proud of me. “They are finally ready after pretending to do treatment for so long to start healing.”

We have all made mistakes right? But I have learned that the beauty of our mistakes creates an awesome opportunity to show others how you have been restored, how your growth happened, how you were delivered from addiction or some other mental health problem, how you were healed, how you were rescued, how you were protected, and most of all, how someone didn’t give up on you. Remember someone out there is counting on your testimony to give them strength, hope, and encouragement to get through a similar situation! Be that hope for them, and never be ashamed of your story.

Self-Love doesn’t just stop with me, I want it to show itself to others so that they will practice it as well.

Stay Awesome,

Lila
